A Ton of Anime News Landed During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays present a multitude of pastimes much better than checking the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid snapping at loved ones. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy developments emerged during the festive period, and just in case you didn't see some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. Yet, the main art for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they are probably trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the conclusion of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
